    He is trashing a language, and this has nothing to do with a language, but with a respective implementation of that language.

    …and that's why I keep writing macros instead of tiny helper functions, hoping "the compiler will do the right thing". Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't, and writing the macro takes less work than figuring out which it is.
