Who else cries listening to this song?
This is a good song, but I think I expected a lot more out of Marina, especially since she’s making such a big deal out of her debut as a newly reborn artist. I’ve been a fan since the Family Jewels, and I feel that with each album, her creativity has diminished. The lyrics just aren’t as elegant and deep as they used to be. I get that she’s trying to focus more on nature-related imagery, but the entire song is just so repetitive and doesn’t have really any direction. Orange Trees is definitely better in this sense, but is still kind of in the same situation. I’ve also been disappointed with the instrumentals so far; her older tracks had amazingly detailed, complicated instrumentals – the background to Handmade Heaven honesty sounds like something I could make in GarageBand. I don’t want to predict the rest of the album from the 3 songs she’s released, but so far all of the songs have been shallow and fake-deep…just mediocre quality overall. If the rest of Love + Fear sounds exactly like this, I don’t think I’ll be buying the album. I love Marina and I’m so glad that she’s found happiness, but I think she’s lost that spark that made the Family Jewels so unique and special. These songs sound like something that any artist could mass produce and commercialize. I hope that the rest of the album proves me wrong.
