How to make Handmade Lemongrass Soap

Make Natural Soap with Lemongrass Essential Oil

This simple recipe for handmade lemongrass soap requires only four main oils, natural pigment in the form of oxides, essential oil, and a few other ingredients and materials. It’s also a palm-free soap recipe so you can rest assured that the ingredients are as ethical as possible.

Making cold-process soap is quick but there is a cure time of four weeks before you can use the bars. During that curing time, the extra water from the recipe evaporates out, creating hard and long-lasting bars.

RECIPE UPDATE — in the video, the amount of water in oz shown in text is incorrect. It’s not a big deal and you can still make the soap with that amount of water. It’s best to use 196g / 7 oz though

  1. Thank you for this tutorial. I've become very interested in handmade, artisan soap and have been searching around to learn more about it. This is one of the best tutorials I've seen. Great recipe (I love lemongrass scent), very easy to follow and very clear. You've won a new subscriber. Regards.

  2. Bonjour,
Attention il y a une erreur (a mistake) dans la traduction ( convert) en gramme du poids de l'eau. 10.7 oz = 303.33 gramme eau.
Bonne journée et merci pour vos vidéos.

  3. I took some old lye soap home from my parents house one day and started to use it and I love it and want to make my own. I can't wait to get started. I got my lard and just need to order my lye. I should never have to buy another bar of soap again after making it. Now if i could only figure out how to make my own shampoo with natural ingredients that actually work. Be nice to not to buy any soaps of any kind.

  4. Thank you so much. Your a great blessing. You train very well. I believe I will learn so much from you. 😄😄😄

  5. Thank you so much. Your a great blessing. You train very well. I believe I will learn so much from you. 😄😄😄

  6. OMG!!! You mean I could have been doing this instead of giving these greedy ass companies my money? Thank you so much for the info. I will never be a fool again. Saved me some serious money. Next, I will learn to make my own detergent. The rest of yall can be suckers all you want.

  7. Great video! I bought a book on soap making but got scared off by the risk of it but you have encouraged me to have a go. Thanks.

  8. Thank you so much for this! I'm new to soaping, and this is my go-to recipe. I watch you every time! I've actually mixed in different colors and scents, using the same oils, and it's come out terrific every time. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's a winner!!!!

  9. +shanalifernando Sorry, not for this recipe. Soap recipes are a careful balance of oil to sodium hydroxide and you cannot use substitutions. Saying that, I have plenty of soap recipes in lovelygreens.com that don’t require Shea Butter

  10. I do a lot of gardening and would like to make a good exfoliating soap to help clean my hands and nails. What would you recommend I add for this?

  11. Any suggestions as to which milk frother to get? I don't have one and there are ALL KINDS online…
By the way, I love your channel and your blog 🙂

  12. Excellent video ! You're a very good teacher. Is it possible to make the soap lather even more ? Can't wait to get started !

  13. Wonderful recipe for soap, makes me want to get all the stuff to make it. I just used up a lot of my goodies to make body butter! Oh well, guess I'll have to put this on the list for a project of things to do. =D

  14. I do use sustainable palm oil from South America. I know a few do that. Ethical. I also stress to remember to not reuse kitchen utensils that have been used with lye for reuse as eating or food use. Great video. We need more like it. Thank You

  15. Great video, Tanya. I feel much less intimidated now about actually attempting soap making…I've never seen such nice sudsing from a commercial bar of soap. They always dry my skin but this looks like it would do the opposite, as you say! Thank you!

  16. This is really helpful, thank you! I wonder if you would think about doing a starters list? I have been wanting to make soap for a year or so and have started building up the things I need but it would be so useful to know which are the most reasonably priced must haves with regard to essential oils and colours, those which can multitask, especially when money and space is a consideration!

  17. link for blog not working for me. you make that look easy to do. I like watching but probably not making ,not going to be a soapmaker here.
